About us
Probus '83 Club, Guildford was founded in 1983 to serve the town and its environs in W. Surrey, England. It is a vigorous and respected fraternity with a great reputation for cordiality and comradeship. New members and guests quickly feel at ease and 'at home'.
Presently, Probus '83 has a membership of almost ninety, most of whom regularly attend the Club's luncheons and events. We welcome retired and semi-retired men from all walks of life.
The Club meets on the first Thursday of each month for luncheon and a talk from a well-known speaker. Indeed, the high quality and diversity of our speakers is the envy of other Probus clubs in Surrey.
We also organise periodic visits to events and places of interest for parties of members, their wives and partners.
In May and December each year, members' wives and partners are warmly welcomed to the luncheon meeting, with a popular speaker or other diversions.
We meet in the bright, newly-built Guildford Masonic Centre. Its excellent restaurant facilities and a spacious terrace bar overlook the River Wey, with open country beyond to the North Downs. There is ample space in the free car park beneath, with lift access to all floors.
An annual subscription of £25 covers the membership year October-September, and £12 covers the cost of the good waitress service luncheon. An enrolment fee of £10 is payable on joining the Club.
The Centre is just off the Old Portsmouth Road (A3100), about two thirds of a mile south of Guildford's High Street. Please see the map on the next page.
